It Started at the Confluence…

The Philmont Staff Association was founded in 1973 by Ned Gold, Nick Pisor, and a small group of former staffers. As set forth in the Preamble to the Association's Constitution, "on the weekend of September 15, 1973, members of Philmont management and representatives of the Organizing Committee of the Philmont Staff Association met at the confluence of the Agua Fria and Rayado Rivers and approved plans for the establishment of The Philmont Staff Association."

For over 50 years, the Philmont Staff Association has been uniting the Philmont staff – past, present, and future. The PSA was originally formed to bring fellowship even beyond the gates of Philmont Scout Ranch, it has ensured that there is always opportunity to reconnect with friends from long ago.

A Legacy of Service

Whether it be stewardship during the PSA’s reunions, Philbreak, Volunteer Vacation, or through the Philmont Service Corps, PSA volunteers donate thousands of hours back to Philmont each year. We’ve built miles of trail throughout the ranch, maintained buildings and infrastructure, and have supported the ranch’s fire mitigation efforts.

An Opportunity to Grow

The Philmont Staff Association has donated over ¾ of a million dollars in scholarships: both educational scholarships to help Philmont’s seasonal staff in their career development, and program scholarships to help deliver the Life Changing experiences of Philmont Scout Ranch to a new generation of participants!

We All Made It

Through the generous donations of PSA members, the Philmont Staff Association has helped support capital projects throughout the ranch supporting Philmont, its staff, and participants. Examples include:

  • Building HOmE: $1.5 million to build the PSA office and help bring the National Scouting Museum to Philmont
  • Campaign4Philmont: $1.4 million to upgrade facilities at PTC, replace the aging Advisors Meeting Room at CHQ, and provide period-appropriate furnishings to the backcountry.
  • Silver Sage Staff Activity Center: $1.1 million. The Silver Sage Staff Activities Center is a place for all staff to relax, recharge, and celebrate with their fellow coworkers.
  • Fire Recovery & Mitigation: $500,000 to support recovery efforts from the Ute Park and Cooks Peak fires.
  • Staff Dining Hall: $300,000 to provide an opportunity for staff to have a relaxing dining atmosphere in base camp. Since 1999, the PSA staff dining hall has served over a million meals.
